Adani Names Parsons Brinckerhoff as Its Project Management Contractor for Its Australian Coal Project

The Adani Group, which is a business conglomerate/corporation headquartered in India doing business in the field of logistics, agribusiness, and energy sectors, announced Parsons Brinckerhoff as its project management contractor (PMC) for the USD 15 billion Carmichael mine, rail, and port project in Australia.

In a statement released by the company, they declared that Parsons Brinckerhoff—which is a global consulting firm assisting public and private clients to plan, develop, design, construct, operate and maintain critical infrastructure—will be Adani’s PMC partner for Phase 1 contract including Adani’s already planned works for the Carmichael mine, North Galilee Basin Rail (NGBR) and expansion at the port of Abbot Point.

The Carmichael Mine received final environmental approval and sanction from Australia in August. The mine will supply high quality but cost-efficient coal to India and other Asian markets.

According to adanimining.com, “the combined mine, rail and port operations will provide over 10,000 direct and indirect jobs and supply opportunities for local businesses.”

The 388-km rail link from Carmichael to the port at Abbot Point will be Queensland’s first standard gauge rail line, which would help bring lower costs for Adani and other producers.

In a statement, Jeyakumar Janakaraj, the CEO of Adani Mining and Australian Country Head, said the Parsons Brinckerhoff contract was a sign of the growing poise leading infrastructure firms to have in the progress of the company’s integrated mine, rail and port project, as Adani’s integrated project promptly shifts to the build phase.

The Adani Group is the largest port developer and operator in India. Mundra (Kutch District, Gujarat) is the country’s largest commercial and private port. The group owns Fortune—India’s largest edible oil brand—through a joint venture with Willmar in Singapore. In April 2014, Adani Power became the largest private power producer in the country.
